Meggan Lee Callahan
Meggan was born on an early Saturday evening on May 23, 1987, in South County Hospital. We have three daughters our oldest Carissa and our youngest Amanda with Meggan in the middle. Our children were surrounded by Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents, and a Great-grandmother for most of her life. Meggan had Godparents that were impactful in her life, whom she loved and adored, and they felt the same way towards her. She was surrounded by love and an understanding to be respectful to others and the need to be treated with respect as well.
Meggan was a talented person, she enjoyed playing Basketball her first true love and Soccer her second love and was all around good in all sports she played. She was a wonderful artist, sang in the choir at Church, loved to dance, had a gift of figuring out math problems in her head before the rest of us figured it out on paper or with a calculator, and truly enjoyed gaining knowledge about Science, loved to gain information on random facts on anything and everything, she picked up languages easily especially those naughty words or phrases. My favorite gift of Meggan’s was her humor, I believed she should be a stand-up comedian (there so many moments that her humor made us laugh so hard our stomachs hurt and we would be wiping tears from our eyes). She always walked her own path in life. Her other major gift was to make friends, so many people have told me that she had a way to make you feel special and they felt like she was their best friend. Family and friendship were a priority in Meg’s life. It was a joy to watch Meggan grow into the person she would become.
Meg started School in Narragansett, RI and graduated from John A. Holmes High School in Edenton, NC. Meggan went to Chowan College for a year and half. She decided to put her college studies on hold until she figured out what she wanted as a career. Her work years began with working at our church as a maintenance person, she continued mowing the lawns and striping and waxing the floors for several years after ending her work with the church and while working at other jobs. She went to work for the Soda Shoppe for a short while. She then began to work at Miller Chiropractic Office and gained some great experiences in a professional office and skills that she was able to apply in her next job. Meggan started working for Bertie Correctional Institute in 2012 as an Officer. In 2016 Meg became a Sergeant and in the fall of 2016 was awarded Employee of the Month. Meggan finally found her niche and she was great at the job.
In the early evening on April 26th, we were sitting down to a dinner to celebrate my Father’s Birthday in heaven when we received a call telling us that Meggan had been attacked by an inmate and she sustained serious injuries. Later that night we were informed that Meggan passed away from those injuries. Our bright light was no longer burning in our lives and all we had left were those amazing memories that she gave us!
