Abbie Leanne Hudson-Harmes
Our Shining Star
Before we begin sharing Abbie's life, you might be wondering what the QR code has led you too..
This page is a place to keep Abbie's memories alive, where people can reminisce through photos or for curious passers by who would like to know more about the person behind this bright magical plot! It's a space where people can share their thoughts, memories and photos on the tribute section, whether that's whilst visiting Abbie or just when she pops into your head! These tributes will be with her on her stone helping us to feel a little more closer and connected ❤️
Now onto our Beautiful Abbie..
Abbie was a joy bringer, her gift was making people smile, laugh and be happy. Always wanting to help others Abbie took part in numerous charity fundraisers starting in junior school and carrying on into adulthood and helping the homeless who came across her path.
Abbie trained as a hairdresser, not to work in a salon but to take her skills into mental health units or anywhere she could help people to feel better about themselves, unfortunately this became impossible. While thinking through how to achieve her goal of working in the mental health sector many of you will remember her smiling face and having fun behind the bar at The Railway. To move forward with her career, Abbie started working for Mencap- looking after young adults with learning disabilities and then onto Brantridge school- helping boys with autism and behavioural issues. She loved working in both workplaces and many of her ideas to help care, understand and bring happiness were implemented.
Abbie enjoyed socialising with family and friends, especially the girls from school with a few glasses of wine. She loved her chill time sitting on the sofa binge watching Netflix in her pjs stuffing her face with lots of sweets!
Abbie met the love her life Matthew, they brought a house and moved in together. When Matthew asked her to marry him, he made her the happiest girl in the world. Abbie and ourselves gained lovely new family and friends. Life was going great for Abbie, achieving her dream job of working with adolescents with mental health problems at Chalkhill being the cherry on the top.
Abbie devastatingly lost her life in a tragic car accident whilst travelling back with her mum after visiting her sister in hospital. Thanks to the incredible Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex we were able to say our final goodbyes before she left this world ❤️
A head on heroes gold award from heads on Sussex partnership NHS foundation trust for mental health was received proudly by us for raising £15000 for Chalkhill in Abbie’s memory. At the awards ceremony a member of the Chalkhill team gave this speech:
"Everyone at Chalkhill feels extremely privileged to have known and worked alongside our quirky, tattooed, DM wearing Abbie. We first met Abbie when she joined the nurse bank as a support worker, she had such a profound impact on us all, with her kindness and positivity, that within a very short space of time our young people had started a campaign to get her a permanent job, that included writing petitions to our ward manager and sharing various hashtags including #wewantabbie #giveabbiethejob#abbieisamazing. Needless to say, Abbie got the job! To our staff Abbie was more than a support worker; she was a valued member of the team who knew intuitively how to respond to the never ending happenings on the ward, she was an inspiration, and she was our friend. Our young people remember Abbie for her limitless compassion and sparkling smile. No matter what time of day or night it was she was always smiling. Abbie was extremely creative and helped young people with her unique distraction techniques that ranged from speaking in ‘dinosaur’ to karate chopping their nightmares away. She always made time for everyone, listened without judgement and installed hope that recovery was possible. Amazing, bold, bright, inspiring, energetic"
Abbie signed up to the organ register as soon as she was old enough, she saved 4 peoples lives with the organs she donated.
Abbie we are so very proud of you, your life did make a difference to everyone lucky enough to have known you ❤️✨❤️
We continue Abbie's legacy of helping those in need and raising funds for causes close to her heart through Abbie's Wonderland 🍄✨
