Life story

Fran was loved by all who knew her. She made friends everywhere she went and made each person in her life feel special and important, seen and heard. She was an exceptional Mother and did an amazing job raising three boys on her own. They were everything to her; she loved and adored each of them. She created wonderful memories for her boys, including vacations each year as they were growing up, especially to Glenwood Springs. She would plan out every fine detail to the penny so that they could have fun and be together. She made a good life for them, even on a meager income.

Fran created a strong foundation of love, service, and faith for her family. She was completely selfless, always giving and never taking. She often went without things for herself so that she could give more to her family, even to her last days here on earth. She was very self-sufficient and hardworking, sewing the clothes for her family, stretching every penny, and shopping every grocery sale. She made everything from scratch and was famous for her soups, biscuits and gravy, potato salad, Miracle Whip cake, chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, fudge and more. She knitted the most amazing dishrags for everyone, each one made with meaningful colors and hours of loving work.

She had such a gift to love and care for others. She always dreamed of running a bed and breakfast. While she was not able to fulfill this dream literally, she lived it every day of her life. Anyone who came to her home would always get a meal and a place to sleep. No one ever left hungry or empty handed. You could talk to her about anything in the world. She encouraged, supported, and gave the best advice to everyone, and they left her home better than when they came. Her love and compassion extended beyond her family and friends to many people in need. She had a great love for the Native American people and regularly contributed to their cause through donations of money, food, and supplies. She worked in the local community where she was a friend to all and again did what she could to help. Even though her own income and supplies were meager, she would buy bags and cases of food to take to the local foodbank. After she fought her own battle with breast cancer, she turned around and volunteered to work with others who were experiencing the same thing. She was a great comfort to many as she turned her experiences into compassion and love for others.

She took in many animals in her life, especially her beloved dogs. She loved and cared for birds, squirrels, stray deer, and other animals. She loved to work in her yard and taught us to see the beauty around us. She knew the name of every plant and every flower. She would often sit on her back porch with us to talk about them and about life. We loved her beautiful roses, poppies, hollyhocks, irises, larkspur and more. She grew tomatoes and rhubarb and all sorts of delicious things.

Fran lived a happy and upbeat life and set an example for us all. She taught us to have faith, to love and help others around us. She always gave God the credit for the good life that she lived. Even in her personal trials she would say that Jesus Christ was her best friend and that He had suffered more than she had. Her faith in Him was unshakable and she always said that God was so good to her. She was positive and happy no matter what came her way. We will never forget how much family and friends meant to her, her warm smile and calming influence. We loved the pictures of family and funny cartoons all over her fridge and her back door. She was a pro at texting and would send out funny jokes or meaningful stories and images to her family. Whenever we would talk on the phone she would finish with “See Ya, Love Ya, Bye!” Whenever we would walk out of her house (hands full!) she would blow us kisses and tell us that she would be sending angels to watch over us. We are grateful that until we meet again, she is that angel watching over us. Thank you for everything you have done to change our lives for the better! We love you Grandma Fran!
