You’ll Never Know
The day my Grandpa arrived in Heaven, was the first time I ever felt a void in my world. His presence was so powerful on earth, when he left I was angry the sun still rose, and the birds still chirped. I wanted the world to stop like mine had. And then I had noticed the sun suddenly beamed brighter and all the birds began to sing so loud. I find peace believing the birds were singing for my Grandpa as he danced with the Angels. If you knew Grandpa, you knew his love for music and dancing. On one of his last days, I played him one of his favorite songs and said ‘lets dance Grandpa.’ I swayed his arms back and forth. He lifted his head, stared straight into my eyes and gave me the biggest smile. It was his very last dance and smile. This moment will forever be engraved into my heart. My Grandpa was one of the most beautiful humans I have ever known. He never spent any personal time on himself or had any hobbies, he spent all of his free time loving his family. He gave us too many memories to count. He loved selflessly, and gave without ever asking for anything in return. All he needed was a few ears to listen to his stories and AN occasional dance partner. I know Grandpa had no regrets about how he chose to spend his time here. I never heard Grandpa ever be asked to make a promise because he never failed to deliver on his word. He was always dependable and filled in as a second father to many of the children in our family. And though Grandpa wore many hats, his favorite was definitely his Santa hat which he proudly wore for many Christmases. My Grandpa was also a fearless man and led with his heart. This was especially true when it came to children. Us grandkids once asked “What was the scariest thing about having children?” He quickly responded “I wasn’t scared at all. I loved them, they were my babies.” He was completely over the moon in love with Grandma and after 60 years, that never faded, in fact it grew daily. He taught us how to love in the way he took care of her and showered her with constant affection. I prayed to find a husband who loved in the way Grandpa loved Grandma, and am so grateful to God I did. I am so thankful for the times he unknowingly left 3 minute voicemails on my phone having conversations with Grandma. I listen to them over and over. My heart aches painfully in his absence. There will never be another man as great as he. He excelled as a husband, a father, especially a grandfather, and I have no doubt he will excel at being God’s favorite Angel.
