Sari Anne Holst
Love is everything in life, everything else, it doesn’t really matter.
Daughter, Sister, Friend, Girlfriend, we are defined by names, titles and jobs but never who we are.
The meaning of Sari Anne: Ride or die, unendingly loyal and supportive to all those she loved, a great sense of humor even when it was punny or corny, she had strong values and never appreciated when people didn’t do the right thing, she got her mind stuck on things and could be quite stubborn and contrary, she also had an amazing ability to be late to most things and procrastinate (packing and doing laundry at 4am to leave for a trip a couple hours later, often leaving with clothing still wet) - hey, if we are going to include it all, we are including it all, we loved her just the way she was.
She was wise, perceptive and a wonderful writer, of humorous portrayals of the ridiculousness of humanity, or wonderful tributes of love and support.
She loved to know what was going on, she could get ALL the deets, I called her a “ferret” for her ability to ferret out information and a “cat” for her endless curiousity and desire for knowledge.
Lengthy discussions ended in exasperation as really only God knows that, but we always had fun, and always were so perfectly comfortable with one another.
Siblings of course, we had our moments, we all do. I’m happy to say she was and is my best friend, just about anytime I needed help she was there, at times she anticipated my needs and made life easier, she was my biggest cheerleader and biggest maker funner and she did the same for others.
Our Mother was destroyed by her passing and we both love and miss her every single day.
She was an excellent employee in her field, highly knowledgeable and professional, trying to work until the end, but when she got a little loopy, her very supportive office had to take away remote access.
In this day and age of terrible employers they were one of the good ones.
If you got this far, I’m her honor stay up to date on your cancer checks (mammo, pap, prostate, skin, colon) and follow up on your symptoms. It may or may not have made a difference here as everything happened incredibly fast, but also the first symptoms weren’t very loud and she was a very walk it off kind of person. If you’d like to donate anything, I’d suggest to research into women’s health and cancers. There is not enough research being done and often women’s cancer, especially pelvic cancers are caught much too late. Even Pap smears can miss a diagnosis, please be on top of and follow up on your symptoms. At this time even doctors don’t always believe us or do what’s best - so if you know something is wrong, be persistent, please.
No one deserves this kind of ending, her warning to me “be very careful”, is also my warning to all - please keep up with your health.
She loved crafts, crochet, sparkle and shiny things, the color pink and red. In her young years she was named a “future artist” in the school paper, her creative talent abounded, she loved music and for a time, about ten years played the Bass in an orchestra in her schools and could also play the piano, she loved reading - Anne of Green Gables, Clan of the Cave Bear, King Arthur, Black Stallion, as an adult she didn’t read as much.
She was exuberant, an introvert to the core, and could be super quiet, until you got to know her. Sari Anne could seem standoffish at times but was at the core very loving and caring and a bit of a romantic (a romantic that hated hallmark movies) - she could go on flights of fancy but also was very logical and pragmatic. As most humans, she lived with some contradictions.
She volunteered her time as an EMT, we were awarded her award for life (20 year) membership at her funeral.
She made so many good friends at her Fire Department the love between all of them shined brightly and fiercely. The Glitter Girls forever - of the Reynolds Sisters - Krystal and Theresa? Tina and Lori- I don’t know who won the favorite - she loved all of you equally I believe - the whole of the glitter girls and CFD family - Krystal, Theresa, Tina, Lori, Cathy, Lauren, Claire, Julia, Joey snd Eddie. A special mention to Sue, Tony, Liam, Baxter and Riley, an honorary part of the family I believe. (And yes she is playing with Riley with the giant red ball in heaven taking him on some drive thru and ice cream trips.).
She loved Harris and the Noor family who adopted her like one of their own. I wish could’ve gone better, but if you see this, her heart was very much with your family too.
She loved her ex Michael and stood by him even after they broke up, - the little shake up with the dedication on her flowers at the funeral, who is that? Her dedication and loyalty, once earned, stood forever.
You can’t define anyone by their name or title, we are all an essence and spirit.
We are all at best remembered by the love and care we gave to others. The memories left behind.
Her legacy is definitely her memory and the love, support, joy, insight, dedication, loyalty and kindness she gave to all of us.
