Julia Dee Perry Koehn
“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” -George Bernard Shaw
Julia Dee Perry Koehn was born on June 6, 1939 in San Antonio, Texas. Judy lived in numerous places growing up, including California but mostly throughout Texas. In 1957, she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, in Houston. Later that same year, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Koehn on November 30, 1957 in Goliad, Texas. To this union of 61 years, three children were born, Jamie, Julie and James II.
Judy was dedicated to her family and loved being a mother and a wife. She was a room mother at school for each of her children. Through her kind, warm and caring heart, Judy was “mom” to many children and teens throughout the years, not just for her own children. It was her passionate love of serving God, her church and especially caring for others that led Judy to serve as the nursery coordinator for Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, in Katy, for over 25 years, all the while also teaching Sunday School and serving as an active member of the church.
Judy made friends easily and had a countless number of friends. She easily opened her arms to many people and simply loved to “visit.” She was generous to a fault. If you lacked anything, she would try her best to fix it. She discovered later in life her love of taking cruises, going a couple of times and had a ball. Her greatest love of all was her family, most especially all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Julia Dee Perry Koehn passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Houston, Texas at the age of 82 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, James “Jim” Koehn; her parents, Jim & Jolene Perry; and by her sister, Sandy Perkins.
She is survived by her three children, Jamie Grimes and her husband Steve, Julie Covington and her husband Mike, and James Koehn II and his wife Trish; her cherished grandchildren, Derek Templet, Dustin Whitman, Darryl Covington, John Covington, William Covington, Halsey Taylor, Haven Norman, Hannah Galvez and Haylee Datray; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
