Yolanda Limon Gonzales
Yolanda was born to the late Santos and Carmen Limon on January 18, 1947. She was a Tucson native and grew up in South Tucson. She started her education at Borton Elementary, went to Safford Jr. High and then on to Pueblo and was a proud Warrior with the class of 1966. Although she did not attend the University of Arizona she took pleasure in following UA sports. She was often yelling and scaring anyone in the house while watching the games as if the players could hear her. Yolanda went right into the work force after high school and was employed for thirty plus years with Hughes Missile Systems and continued working there after it became Raytheon. Yolanda, married Henry C. Gonzales in 1970. They started a family and built a home together. She may have been the authoritarian in bringing her children up; nevertheless, she loved and spoiled them often. Yolanda retired in 2001 and had the pleasure of watching after her first grandchild, Elysia. She loved watching her granddaughter, being with her, taking Elysia to go eat, watching her go to school, it was Yolanda’s joy to see this little girl grow. She would go on to have two more grandchildren, Estevan and Elias. Yolanda’s heart was bursting. She additionally appreciated traveling. She went to Washington D.C, New York City where she found a Mi Nidito, which is one of her favorite Mexican restaurants here in Tucson. She went to Chicago and met her son-in-law’s family and had a great time meeting her extended family and visiting the city. Yolanda went to visit Yellowstone, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Oahu (her first time on a plane), a cruise from Alaska to Canada, even cruised to Puerto Rico, St Martin and St Thomas. While in Miami beach she whistled at young men on the beach as she was driven down the street. As much as she enjoyed traveling, Yolanda relished going out to eat. While being an amazing cook (her biased son), in retirement she preferred to support local businesses. She did have some favorites, Mi Nidito, L and L, Bread and Butter, Caruso’s, Silver Saddle and they all had a “go to” dish that she was extremely pleased with each time. The one thing she loved doing in her alone time was listening to music. She had an abundance of 8-tracks, 33s, 45s, mini disc (even though that didn’t take off) CDs, and attempted to use Spotify, although she preferred her CDs. She was always singing with her headphones on, she didn’t care who was around. She sang loud and you heard her everywhere in the house. Her family would like to extend thanks to the many doctors and nurses who were with her and her family at the end, they were of great assistance at Banner South. Also, thank you to Hilda for being there and understanding, with kind words even during all the tears. https://www.carrillostucsonmortuary.com/obituary/yolanda-gonzales
