Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to the most incredible mother I could’ve asked for for my children! This is what I sent to the kids this morning in your honor sweetheart! My sweet family. Yesterday, Ryan’s game was in Rancho Cordova. Just a few miles from where your mom and me owned our first apartment. Ryan and I drove by there after the game. A flood of memories came back into my mind and heart. It’s been almost 28 years but, in many ways, it felt like just yesterday. Did those memories make me sad? Absolutely. But, those memories are also so special and beautiful to me as well. And always will be. We lived next door to one of my closest friends and his wife. Monday through Friday, mom would drive to work every morning and I would drive to school at Sac State which was just down the street. Mom would work from 9-5 as I would take my classes at school. Mom worked hard. She had made the decision, given our circumstances, that she would put her own schooling on hold to put me through college. Little did she know that her sacrifice of not going back to school would extend beyond my time in college. Josh was born just 2 years later and she wanted to be a stay at home mom. Then came Tanner, then Riley, then Ryan and finally Callie. Mom went back to work once she knew she’d be home for you guys after school and be close to you during school in case something happened. But she never went back to finish school. As you know, that wasn’t the only sacrifice your mom made for you and our family. She constantly and consistently put our needs ahead of her own. President Joseph F. Smith said, “The love of a true mother comes nearer to being like the love of God than any other kind of love.” This love, my children, has not stopped! In fact, it has only gotten more intense and stronger! President Nelson spoke at his daughter’s funeral recently. He spoke about her love for her children. He also spoke of the eternal role of mother. During his talk he said the following, “She can minister to you in what I call ‘parenting through the veil.’ She can see us more clearly through the veil than we see her. We cannot forget her. We do not cease to love her. We are sealed to her by eternal ties. She loves us now more than ever. Her desire for our well-being will be even greater than that which we feel for ourselves. So dear family, stay tuned.” Your mom loves you so much. She never stopped putting your needs ahead of her own and never stopped sacrificing. She hasn’t stopped loving you. Her love has grown exponentially for each of you. Today will always be a sad day for you. But, just as my memories as I stopped by our old apartment, I hope this day will not only be sad but also beautiful and special as you truly celebrate the incredible woman that your mom was and continues to be beyond the veil. I love you! Mom loves you!

Angel Angelique

I met Angelique when she was a young teenager. What a joy to watch her over the years as she graduated high school, went to college, married Chris, and then became the mother of five amazing children. Always Angelique illuminated kindness, love, and strength ~ even in the last months and days of her life. Her life reflected this verse: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” Matthew 5:16. I often told Angelique that she was an earth angel because of her continual compassion towards others. Now she is a heavenly angel, still radiating her love and light onto others, especially her sweet family. I love and miss you, Angelique. Keep shining!

My sister

Angelique loved the ocean. She was born by the ocean and loved returning a few times a year. She loved all the colors found at the beach, including all shades of blues and sandy creams, and used them in her decorating. I imagine palm trees were her favorite tree as well, as she was really good at painting them. She loved the beach so much that her email address even included “born on the beach” in it! My favorite memories with Angelique are found at the beach. Our yearly trips to a Santa Barbara with our mom were a time of joy and excitement. We always looked forward to those trips with so much anticipation! I will always think of her when I’m at the beach, sitting there watching the waves coming towards me, and then back out to sea, and I know her spirit will be right there with me. I miss you every day my sweet sister.

Chris RobertsShe looked forward to that time with you and mom every year! She could be having the hardest time, especially after her cancer diagnoses, and that trip would make everything better for her. She loves you so much, Melinda! You weren't only her sister, you were one of her best friends!

A Gift From God

Angelique is one of the most selfless people ever to walk the earth. Her willingness to put other's needs ahead of her own and her constant and consistent desire to put other's happiness, specifically her husband's and kids', ahead of her own was commonplace. She often went without making sure those around her had their needs met first. She literally dedicated her life to serving others selflessly. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13) This world is a better place because Angelique was in it. She's now able to serve her family and friends untethered, having broken the bonds of her physical body, as a guardian angel.

One of Angelique’s favorite scriptures

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, peace, be still. And the wind seized, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39 Angelique had a unique ability to calm her own seas and others’. That ability remains with her as we feel her spirit from the other side. One day, we shall meet again and what a great day that will be! I miss you every day!
