Life story

Barbara Lee (DeLong) Schorno of Quincy was born June 5, 1936, in Bellingham, WA to William S. and Elizabeth C. (Hoeruegel) DeLong. She passed away on January 25, 2024, following a brief illness. She was the second of eleven children.

The family moved to Sedro-Woolley, WA in the fall of 1949. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1954. After graduation she became a bank teller. December that same year she met Leonard Schorno, her future husband of 66 years. They were married in 1957 and she passed one month shy of their 67th wedding anniversary.

Barbara and Leonard settled in Mt. Vernon where she was a stay-at-home mother to six children. In 1974 the family moved to Quincy to farm. There, their last child was born. Barbara’s husband and children were her entire life.

Barbara will always be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith. Through the church she touched so many lives through her prayers, generosity, and selfless service to others. If she were not doing something for the church, you could find her sewing. Making clothes from an early age for herself and younger siblings. She moved on to sew for her children and then her grandchildren. She spent many evenings watching sports on tv and working on one of her popular braided rugs. During the day she would be quilting, she made quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She made baby quilts by the dozen. She kept them in the car just in case she ran into an expectant mother in a parking lot somewhere that she could give one to. She made sure her cookie tin was full of chocolate chip cookies for when her grandchildren would visit. Everyone loved those chocolate chip cookies. She looked forward to her yearly trip to Swiss Park where she enjoyed traditional Swiss music, dancing and the time spent with family and friends.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Jeannie, Michael, Brad, Billy, and Betty.

Barbara is survived by her husband Leonard, children, Gregory, Joseph (Cindy), Lynette Henson (Rich), Lisa Pozzi (Stuart), Anita Marcoux (Simon), Anton (Claudia) and Ann Haberman (John). She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, siblings, Bonnie Stark (John), Beverly Pearson (Jerry), Bernita Bland, Belinda DeLong and Brenda Armenia (Bruce Fink), numerous nieces and nephews.
