Brandon J Lewis
“There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains.” — Unknown
From the moment he was born, doctors were unsure how much time he would have. They believed he might not live beyond the age of three. But he was a fighter—one who overcame more than anyone ever expected and proved, time and time again, that limits did not define him.
He lived with many challenges, including mitochondrial myopathy, cerebral palsy, immune deficiency, and more. Yet none of those conditions told the story of who he truly was. What defined him was his spirit—his awareness, his deep emotional intelligence, and a smile so powerful it could instantly change the mood of an entire room. He seemed to truly see people, meeting them eye-to-eye in a way that made them feel known and understood.
He left an impact on everyone he encountered—family, friends, nurses, physicians, and strangers alike. Even today, those who cared for him still remember him. Despite spending much of his life in hospitals, he never lost his light. He loved music, being around people, his stuffed animals, and simply being present in the world.
He had a special love for Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Jumanji, and Matilda. Toy Story reflected who he was at heart—a story rooted in love, loyalty, and the belief that everyone belongs. A Bug’s Life mirrored his own journey, showing that bravery has nothing to do with size or strength, and everything to do with courage. These stories spoke to him because, in so many ways, they were already written into his life.
One of the most beautiful chapters of his life was his Make-A-Wish trip to Give Kids The World in Kissimmee, Florida, where he experienced Disney and SeaWorld. Though there were fears surrounding his health, that trip became one of the happiest times of his life. He was joyful, thriving, and truly free—and it remains a cherished memory that lives on forever in the hearts of those who shared it with him.
He passed away at the age of 19, having lived a life far fuller and more meaningful than anyone could have predicted. To his family, he was—and always will be—a ray of sunshine. A son, brother, grandson, uncle and more- he was a rock, a teacher, and the heart behind everything many do and everything many have become.
His life was proof that love, bravery, and joy are not measured by time or physical ability—but by the impact one leaves behind. And his impact is infinite.
