Christopher Austin David Orr
“When all the fun is over, come on home.”
There’s so much I could write about my brother, he was definitely a character. Chris was so full of life in his short 26 years. He always had a smile on his face and love in his heart. Even though he had been sick all of his life, he always knew God had his hands on him. My mom and dad found out Chris had liver disease when he was only 7 years old. He ended up having a liver transplant March of ‘22 (which failed or else I wouldn’t be writing this lol.). Yes most of his life was spent at doctor’s offices, having his blood drawn, fluid taking off of his stomach, and so much more. I want to talk about what he did outside of the doctors appointments.
Chris was a musician. I promise you I am not biased when I say he was one of the best bluegrass pickers that I have ever met. I don’t know one person who wouldn’t say the same. Along with Chris’s liver problems he also had problems with his eardrums, he had almost completely lost his hearing twice. Chris couldn’t read a lick of music either. He learned music completely by ear. He could play; Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Bass, Dobro, Piano, Drums, Fiddle (my dad made me put that last one🙄), if I continued writing all the instruments he could play it would take 10 years to read this.
Chris was goofy. He would light up a room as soon as he’d walk in. He was always making people laugh and smile and it came so natural to him. Chris would make you laugh whether you wanted to or not, he didn’t really care either way.
Chris was a ladies man. As his sister, I personally have no clue how he pulled as many girls as what he did. I would walk in his bedroom as he would be serenading a girl over the phone. He would ask me to come help him sing “When You Say Nothing At All” by Keith Whitley and I swear every time I would there would be a new girl on the screen. (If you’re his ex and you’re reading this… I’m sorry lol)
Chris was a hard worker. He had many, many jobs. He really shined in the landscaping business and finishing his landscaping career working at UT with his best friend Cody. He loved to make the grass lines and loved to brag to my dad that he could do it and dad couldn’t lol. If chris wanted to be good at something he would practice and practice till he was blue in the face.
Chris loved to hunt and fish. If he had a free day that’s what he was doing. It didn’t matter, bank, river, lake, if there were fish in the water he was going to have a line in.
Chris was amazing with kids. We would always catch Chris doing the silliest things to make a baby that was crying smile or laugh. All of our younger cousins absolutely loved Chris.
I’m very surprised my mom let me write this but I’m glad she did. I’m glad I got to share a small piece of the huge impact Chris left on all of our lives.
