Elijah John Senegal
Our sweet boy, Elijah, was a true miracle from the very start. At just one month old, he was diagnosed with Lissencephaly, a rare brain condition. By the age of two, Elijah faced many medical challenges — including five types of seizures, Microcephaly, TUBA1A, and quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Though his conditions made his health extremely complex, Elijah’s strength and determination amazed everyone who knew him.
Elijah was nonverbal and nonmobile, but he communicated in his own special way — through his loving presence, his sweet grunts, and his unforgettable snuggles. He loved his blankets, rocking in his rocking chair, and swinging on the swing set. He had the biggest cheeks, longest eyelashes, and the most perfect little smile. Though he couldn’t speak, his sassy little personality always came through loud and clear.
He was our real-life superhero — he beat every odd doctors set against him and fought impossible battles to give us the most beautiful four years we could have ever asked for. We did everything superhero-themed for him because that’s exactly what he was to us.
Elijah attended Pedia Trust, and touched the hearts of everyone who cared for him. He had a proud big sister, Lillian, who adored him, and a little sister, Olivia, who was born after his passing but will always know her brother’s story and the incredible love he brought into our family.
Elijah loved to keep everyone on their toes — if you thought things were going to go one way, he’d find a way to surprise you and make it go another. Though his time here was far too short, Elijah filled our lives with immeasurable love, strength, and joy. He was loved beyond words and continues to be the missing piece of our hearts as well as the heart behind Elijah’s Snuggles — our way of carrying his love and light forward. 💙
