Life story

Betty Joann McGee Dacus was born in Pendleton, South Carolina on May 30th, 1946 and passed away peacefully on April 13th, 2018. The daughter of the late Odis O'Dell and Mary Runie Gilstrap McGee, Betty was a devoted wife, loving Mother, homemaker, and member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Pendleton.

She was known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers. She possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing, love, and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her smile and laughter, will never be forgotten.

Grady Gene Dacus aka “Shady Grady” was born in Lafrance, South Carolina on October 2nd, 1944 and passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2019. He was the son of the late William Walker and Willie Mae Dutton Dacus. Grady retired as a Jacquard Loom Fixer at Mount Vernon Mills of Lafrance after 35 years of service. He was an avid fisherman who could also drive the wheels off a street car, race car, or go-cart, on the racetrack or on the street. Just ask the local police! Grady was also known for his mean pool stick abilities, for enjoying his drink of choice, his infectious smile, and that he never met a stranger.

Grady and Betty were married on December 2nd, 1963 after meeting at a party where they played a game of “Post Office” on the streets of the Mill Village in Pendleton. Together they had two children, Jean Dacus Fisher (Don) of Townville, South Carolina and the late Christopher Dell Dacus (Tina) of Lafrance, South Carolina. They were also greatly loved by their 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Betty and their son, Christopher, proceeded Grady in death and he mourned their absence with each passing day.
