Joanna Asmin
Afterglow; I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done. -Helen Lowrie Marshall
Joanna Asmin was born on the island of Haiti on February 2, 1992, to her loving parents, Elvina and Esner Arcelin. From the
moment she entered the world, Joanna was known for her sweet and loving nature.
Her bright smile, however, was accompanied by great pain due to the challenges of living with sickle cell anemia,
a genetic blood disorder. At the age of one, her parents decided to move to America,
seeking a better life for their beloved daughter and family. Despite the frequent
hospital visits and the pain she endured, Joanna’s spirit remained unbreakable. Joanna's heart was even bigger than her smile. She was a family-oriented person
whose love and kindness influenced everyone around her, even during her times
of tribulation. She had a remarkable ability to make anyone feel at home and like family in her presence, extending her warmth, support, and maternal nature to all who knew her. As Joanna rests, no longer in pain, her family will cherish her memory and love her
forever. She is survived by her parents, Esner and Elvina Arcelin; her sisters,
Michena Anezy, Rebecca Asmin, and Thainna Arcelin; and her brother, Esner
Arcelin II, whom she affectionately called
Junior. She is also survived by seven godchildren, whom she adored, and long-
time friends whom she considered family.
Joanna’s legacy of love, unwavering faith, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts and daily actions of those she loved.
