Lori Mae Verbeke
Lori Verbeke passed away at her home on April 1, 2024, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born as the middle child of Frank and Barbara Elliott on November 4, 1961. She grew up in Fennville, Michigan and graduated from Grand Valley State University.
Lori relocated to Bloomington, Indiana and while working full time, obtained an MBA from Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. She worked as an accountant/CFO of mental health facilities in Indiana. Lori moved to Texas in 2007 to begin working as the CFO of a Universal Health Services, Inc. owned hospital. She has worked in that capacity at four different UHS hospitals until taking medical leave on February 26, 2024.
Lori and her husband Albert Verbeke were married in Sedona, Arizona on April 21, 2003. She is survived by her husband Al, daughter Alexis, and son Adam, granddaughter Stella Rose Anaya, stepchildren Kelly Hartman, Carla Verbeke and Joshua Verbeke, mother Barbara, and siblings Richard and Cheryl. She is preceded in death by her father Frank and stepdaughter Alisha Church.
Lori was a fun loving person who traveled whenever possible, including trips to Africa, China, Mexico, St. Thomas, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Bermuda, Aruba and many places in the US. Her greatest joys were Alexis and Adam and granddaughter Stella. She much appreciated the company of dear friends. She had a beautiful smile and a warm and giving heart.
Lori and Al are much appreciative of the efforts of the staff of UT Southwestern. Through their efforts she survived this terrible disease for over five and a half years. Lori continued to work full time while enduring operations and many rounds of both radiation and chemotherapy. During the time those treatments gave her, she was able to take several trips, attend the high school graduation of her youngest child, Adam, the birth of Stella, and have many other happy times.
