Life story

Matt was born in Richmond, BC on July 6th, 1985, his first three years were spent growing in Masset on the Queen Charlotte islands, BC. Matt then moved to the lower mainland and lived primarily Richmond and White Rock area.

He then moved to the Miramichi (formerly New Castle New Brunswick) for three years where he started kindergarten at 4 years old and attended French only school. French was his first language from 3-6 years of age.

He then moved back to White Rock and Richmond where he finished up his schooling.

Matty loved animals of all kinds… he had snakes many, lizards of all varieties, frogs, newts, rodents, feral cats ( Kitty, Guy, Bell pepper star), dogs (Rusty, Sadie’s and Dozer).

Matt was a Rep league baseball player, MVP catcher many years in a row and he taught his brother Pat to be a great little league catcher too. He loved his BMX, his trampoline, and was known to be very talented on a skateboard.

Matty and his Papa spent hours talking about gun and archery safety and learning survival in the outdoors.

He worked from the age of 11 doing lots of odd jobs that enabled him to pay for all the things he wanted.

Also volunteering at the SPCA for many years.

Matty had a passion for video games which he maintained to the end and he passed on his skills to his son Cael.

Matt was a wonderful and loving son to mom Sharon and dad Terry and a great big brother to Pat. He was loved dearly by grandparents June and Frank Fathers who helped raise him to be the gentleman he grew to be.

Dad Terry drove Matt and Pat to Grande Prairie to where they lived on the Jackson ranch with Uncle Dennis, Auntie Linda, cousin Royce and Jess; he became family and loved any and all the time he spent there.

Matty completed his NAC coating inspector license where he coated, sanded and inspected many miles of Alberta and Saskatchewan pipeline.

Matt was an extremely hardworking man for his family and Matty always stood up for the underdog.

He fell in love with Jaime Jones and they worked very hard to provide a beautiful home to raise their four children, Cael, Lacy, Lucy and Abby.

Matt loved Jaime and his children fiercely and was a devoted, doting, cuddling, fun dad and the minute he walked through the door his time belonged to his kids. He believed in a better world for his children and he longed to move to the country where his children could learn about homesteading and survival skills. He wanted to teach his children to live off the land.

Matty loved researching everything and anything to get to the truth about something to educate himself to know more. He belonged to a few survival groups, finally being a chapter leader to the True North Patriots where he found a band of like minded brothers he respected.

Matty chose to become a man of good character and true integrity. He had a huge heart and would always help anyone in need. Matt worked hard, loved hard but unknown to him he had a heart condition. We are all proud to have a son, brother, husband and dad who grew up to be such a kind, thoughtful man and amazing dad!

Matt you were loved by many and will never be forgotten. Your kindness will live on in the lives of those you met and in the hearts of your beautiful children.

Matty is survived by his wife Jaime, son Cael, daughters Lacy, Lucy and Abby, his mom Sharon, Dad Terry, brother Patrick, Patrick’s wife Jen, mother and father in-laws Brian and Brenda, sister in law Andrea, and nephew Alex. Matt also leaves behind many extended family members and friends galore, Matt is predeceased by his loving grandparents June and Frank Fathers.
