Wrote this the day you passed.
I lost my only sibling today... My first word was "Meagan", from the time I was born I was enamored with my sister. She was the funniest, coolest person around and with a 9yr difference she had the option to ignore her baby brother but she didn't she was always around for me showing me her movies and shows to the point we developed a language purely talking in movie quotes. I remember when I was young thinking she was a rockstar seeing her on stage at these world class Irish dancing competitions and had to get all the cool fenwick swag from her high school because she had it. As a kid my mom would travel most weeks and my dad worked late many nights especially during tax season. So my sister was always there to pick up the slack and heat up a dinner, drive me to sports, or a doctors appointment. In fact it she used to laugh about how she was the one who gave me "the talk" as we were stuck in traffic and I chose that moment to ask those questions. Otherwise we'd drive around she'd tell me about her dating drama and I'd respond as a kid would "well he's stupid", then she'd blast B96 in the car and keep me up to date with all the new hip music and ways to download it introducing me to WINAMP & Limewire or burning me all the "non parent approved" CDs I could ask for. Even when she went off to Dayton she made visiting her the coolest time a 5th grader could ask for. I still remember giving her $5 for her 21st so I could buy her first drink even though I was 12 and couldn't be there. I lost my best friend today... When I was a teen, i was lucky enough to be allowed to visit her in Milwaukee and we'd just walk around the city and she'd show me all her favorite spots. When she came home we'd go to all the concerts whether it was a big Dave Matthews weekend or bumping into her at a dropkick murphys show I wasn't supposed to be at I could always count on a great time with her. When I was at my worst getting kicked out of Tourette camp, for an overly competitive mistake I turned to my sister who dropped everything and drove and hour to pick me up and spent the day consoling me. When I made a driving mistake and needed to be picked up at the police station, it was meagan who came and got me. As an adult, She was the barrier that all girlfriends had to get past to be taken seriously, and if Meagan didn't like you then you were out. No questions asked. She was the one who bought me my first legal drink, would go to a Blackhawks game on a dime, and was always up for a good pub crawl and when she came to town I'd try to convince as many friends as possible to hang out and join us. She always asked about my friends, how they were doing, what everyone was up to because she cared about them because she knew they were important to me. Whether it was childhood trips to visit our family in Mayo, a million Irish dance weekends all over the country, Boston, beer fests, concerts, San Francisco, DC, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Dayton, visiting me in Galway, or even a simple blackhawks game every night out was an adventure with her no matter what age we were. Meagan was more than sister, more than a confidant, more than a friend. She embodied everything that a sibling should be. She didn't have to, she could've chosen to just be an aloof half sibling who was 9yrs older than me but thats not who meagan was, she was a genuinely good fun & loving person. She deserved so much more than what life threw her way. If you're lucky enough to have a sibling, I know sometimes you can get on each others nerves, grow apart as life gets in the way. But appreciate them, cherish them, love them, and take a moment to reminisce of your younger days. RIP Meagan Errichiello I'll always love you sis
