Rock Allen Jordan Jr.
Rock A. Jordan Jr., also known as Rocky, age 38 years 1 month and 28 days, left behind a legacy of laughter, mischief, and a life lived entirely on his own terms. Born with a wild heart and a carefree spirit, Rocky never met a stranger, never steered away from a dare, and always chased the sun mostly in something fast.
Whether he was on his motorcycle, in a fast car, on a dirt bike, or in a boat or on a bank fishing. Rocky lived every day to the fullest. He always taught us that life isn't measured in minutes, but in moments that make your heart race. Rocky had a fearless personality that followed him into adulthood. He held so much charisma in the way he described a moment or a memory. His ability to recount a story in such detail would have everyone in tears of laughter.
Rocky’s early years. Rocky was born in Herrin, IL on July 23, 1984 to his loving parents Rock A. Jordan and April R. Jones. He was always described as the happiest baby and toddler full of smiles and laughter. His sister Angel was born and he kept the happy smiles but also took the big brother part seriously taking on the role of protecter and best friend. Rocky and Angel were never far from one another some say they were each other’s other half. His Ying to her Yang.
Rocky’s youth. Rocky was a very active child, never wanting to sit still always wanting to be outside. In his youth he played baseball, Jr football, wrestling, basketball, Cub Scouts and was on the swim team. Rocky also spent a lot of time fishing with his dad and Grandpa Dallas. In these years with the encouragement from his Aunt Cindy he found the love of horses. He took riding lessons and it was apparent he was a natural. All animals gravitated towards Rocky but riding and caring for horses was a passion.
Rocky’s teenage and young adulthood. There’s probably not a phrase or a paragraph that could sum up Rocky as a young man but we can try. Rocky still loved everything outdoors. And while his wild rebellious side got him in trouble at times. He was still one of the most solid people you could know. The ones that got to be loved by the young adult Rocky were truly blessed beyond belief. If you wonder if you’re one of his chosen, ask yourself. “Have I heard Rocky sing loudly off key?” If the answer is yes, then you experienced his crazy love.
In his young adulthood he found a relationship with God and was baptized. Rocky made so memories with friends and family. Rocky welcomed a nephew Caleb, a niece Madison, and another nephew Elijah into this world. The love he had for his niece and nephews were unmatched. If you knew Rocky at this point in life and someone asked to describe him the overall is. “He was one of a kind.”
Rocky’s adulthood. By this point Rocky was still a wild soul. Living his life like you’re not granted a tomorrow. Rocky and his sister would joke that they were the few adults that didn’t have all the social media platforms that they didn’t sit and play the Xbox. In some ways Rocky liked the simpler life. He rode his motorcycle from coast to coast in his offseason of work. He experienced the beach for the first time. He traveled and met people and did more than most people can dream of.
For work Rocky did a variety of careers. He was on the Beam Team working construction. He worked construction building homes. He was a bricklayer and a member of the Bricklayers & Trowel Trades Local 21 in Indiana. And for many years was an Arborist. True to his nature climbing and cutting trees was a calling for him. Rocky was a never stop hard worker.
He still had his wild rebellious side. That either got him into trouble or made a really great story. It seemed the only time he settled down was when his sister was there. Even as a grown man animals and children still gravitated to Rocky. As if his soul was shining and they could sense the good he carried.
Rocky was preceded in death by his grandparents; Dallas Jordan and Wanda McEmery, and Robert & Kathleen Jones.
Rocky is survived by his father, Rock A. Jordan Sr. of Herrin, IL; and mother, April R. Jones of Gary, IN; sister and brother-in-law, Angel & Jason Newman of Robinson, IL; niece and nephews, Madison Newman, Caleb Newman and Elijah Newman. And a community of friends and family who will miss his type of crazy spontaneity, his infectious laugh, his huge smile, and his ability to light up any room. Rocky was truly the main character in this movie we call life.
