"To know Ryan, was to love Ryan"
Life story

Ryan Kenneth Massey, born January 2nd, 2003 passed away in a motorcycle accident at the young age of 20 on September 3rd, 2023. Ryan was the son of Rick Massey and Amy Summers, brother of Alexandria Massey, grandson of Charles and Sharon Carr (paternal) and Ken and Lynda Summers (maternal), and a phenomenal friend to many. Ryan graduated Russellville High School in 2021 and studied at the United Institute of Welding in Pottsville, AR.

Ryan was the real deal—a loyal friend who had your back in both the epic and the not-so-glamorous moments. He lived like every day like it was his last, soaking in every second. He was a lover and fighter, always standing up for the people he cared about. If Ryan Massey loved you, it meant to be completely and utterly loved with no expectations of anything in return.

Ryan had a heart of gold, always ready to give you the shirt off his back or the last penny in his pocket. Ryan loved his friends and family unconditionally, and always smiled at a stranger. During his short life, his family watched him become a caring, compassionate man with a bright future ahead of him. His goal in life was to take care of his mother, and to give her to best life possible. Let's not forget those fur babies of his, Darcie and Roxanne. Those dogs weren't just pets; they were family.

Now, talking about Ryan's style – the guy was a fashion icon in his own right. I mean, he loved to dress up for any occasion, and shopping for clothes was practically a sport for him. You'd catch him in the slickest outfits, always rocking that unique Ryan flair. It wasn't just about the clothes; it was a statement, a part of who he was.

And, oh man, his love for wheels! Ryan was a gearhead through and through. Whether he was tearing it up on his motorcycle, revving up some cars, or getting his kicks from racing, he had this passion for the road that was contagious. The sound of engines and the smell of burnt rubber – that was Ryan's symphony, his happy place.

Ryan had this knack for making every gathering, big or small, feel like a party. Heck, even at his grandfather's birthday dinner, a handful of Ryan's crew would roll up, turning a simple family affair into a lively get-together. His ability to turn any moment into a celebration was truly special.

It's these little details, the quirks and passions, that make Ryan's story so rich and colorful. He wasn't just a friend; he was a character, a force of nature, and someone you couldn't help but love being around. Those memories of him, dressed to the nines, revving up those engines, and sharing those contagious smiles, are the ones that will keep him alive in our hearts forever.

He was on a mission to make the world a better place, and its safe to say he did a pretty good job of it. Ryan left a mark on so many of us that's going to stick forever. There aren't words to say how much we loved—and still love—Ryan Kenneth Massey. Ryan left behind a community of people who loved him, and so many have grieved his passing; however, he also left an immense amount of memories and love that will never be forgotten or replaced.

"I prayed for a love like ours for the longest time before us, and I will continue to cherish the amazing love we had now that you're gone. I will continue to tell people how AMAZING you were and how you were my soul mate, and God showed me that in many ways. Maddie and Ryan, what a duo we were..." - Madison Southard

"I can only hope and pray my legacy will be at least a fraction of what Ryan Massey’s was/is! Tonight we all got to witness how many lives Ryan touched during his short 20 years on this earth, but it will be his profession of his faith in Jesus Christ that will be remembered. Ryan rededicated his life to the Lord just a few short hours before God called him home…what a testimony!!! May God bless you all, Mrs. Sharon Noblett Carr!!! It was an absolutely beautiful service! I believe Ryan would have been so very proud! 😀❤️💙✝️" Donna Kennamore

Dawn Hardy

"I am sending you this message as a testament to the kind of person Ryan Massey was. My name is Dawn Hardy I am from Bunkie, Louisiana. My daughter Maycie Hardy was invited on a visit to Arkansas Tech as a softball recruit. After her visit she asked the coach to take her to see the State Park. While we were there my car battery went dead. Ryan happened to be there walking a dog for a friend. He saw we were having trouble and offered to give us a jump. Well the battery was too bad and it would not start. So the coach has to take us to buy a battery. Without hesitation Ryan said he was going to run home and get his tools and meet us back at the park to change the battery for us. Sure enough when we returned with the new battery he got straight to work. Well, I did not get the correct battery so we had to go back to town and get the correct one. Again, without hesitation he said he was gonna go get him a drink at Sonic (it was very hot late June) he even offered to get us all something. When we returned with the correct battery he once again went straight to work. However, he had an accident, while cutting the plastic straps of the new battery he cut his finger really badly. Thank goodness the coach had a first aid kit and a towel in her car because there was blood everywhere. We tried to tell him to just forget it because he had already done too much. But he would not leave us. The coach stayed too, although I figured she’d never make my daughter an offer after this 2 hour ordeal. Ryan graciously installed the battery and had us on our way home (6 hour drive). We offered him money and he refused my daughter had to throw it into the window of his car. I truly figured we would never hear from him or see him again. My daughter has been going to New Life Church since her move to Russellville (she got an offer after all). Last Sunday she said this guy came sit next to her and she realized it was Ryan. They remembered each other and exchanged a few friendly words. Well today, she called me after church to tell me the devastating news. She told me that Ryan was a real part of her decision to commit to Arkansas Tech. She said he was just so friendly and went way out of his way to help us and she wanted to live in a community where people were kind. My heart breaks for everyone that new him. In a very short time he made a huge impact on myself and my daughter. He was truly a child of God and the fact that he wanted to get closer to God confirms what I already knew. HE WAS A SPECIAL PERSON. I am forever thankful for that dead battery simply because it allowed us to cross paths with Ryan." Dawn Hardy

"Ryan was one of those kids who left a lasting impression on me. Not only in elementary school, but watching him grow up as well. His kindness and easy-to-like personality always made me happy to be around him. That didn't change as he grew up!! Some of my favorite memories are when he would stop by school to check in. He always gave hugs and wanted me to be proud of his life. And I always was!! It's been very hard for me to imagine a world without his bright smile and contagious personality in it." Sheri Shirley

"You have no idea what this means to me. Ryan was one of those kids that I grew close to during my educational career. He always had time for me and loved life to the fullest. I've had many students over the years and he ranked among the top of the list. When I heard about his passing, I was devastated. I still remember the day when he stopped by my office after graduation and gave me his "Life Impart Award '' that seniors give someone who made a difference in their life. I went to our storage building and dug it out and I have it in my calendar book. It's a reminder to me how precious life is and how important people are that come into your life. I am so very ever grateful that our paths crossed. He taught me more about how to live life and make the most of every situation. He impacted so many lives in a short amount of time. I will always remember his smile and him always greeting me with "hey harp"!" Al Harpenau

"Teachers aren't supposed to outlive their students. Ryan Massey was truly one of a kind! He was in my very first class back in 2011-2012. Ryan would always make a point to stop by my classroom at least once a year (if not more!) for a hug and to catch up. He loved big and never met a stranger! Ryan's young life was cut way too short, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him!" Kara Lynn Wilson
