Bravest, strongest young man whose smile lit up a room. We all love and miss you millions Shine bright Angel xxx
Ry was born on the 4th may 2008 at a very healthy 7lb 11oz. He was 50 cm long and so beautiful. Growing up he was a proper boy, full of energy, loved his bikes and enjoyed being with friends and family. He had the most Gorgeous blond curls and beautiful blue eyes. He would do anything for anyone. He fell in love with playing rugby, when he started he was one of the smallest on the pitch but my god he could tackle. He was amazing at maths, I could ask him anything and he would know it, he was so cleaver. He was always dirty because if he wasn’t playing rugby he was building dirt jumps for his bike. He would give anything a try and was always better at it than anyone else.
At the age of 12 Ry started to get head aches. After a number of doctors appointments and hospital appointments it was an eye test on the 13th March 2021 that finally gave us answers, Ry had leukaemia (ALL) acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. our lives started to crumble. He had a white cell count of 997 one of the highest the hospital had ever seen. We were air lifted to Bristol children’s hospital and Ry was put straight into intensive care, you wouldn’t have known how poorly he was though because he was still smiling. Ry asked loads of questions and it wasn’t long before he knew everything about his treatment, all the long words that the doctors used and what they meant, me and his dad were asking him questions so we could understand. Treatment was hard but was going in the right direction until July when Ry relapsed, after a number of discussions it was decided the Ry should under go a treatment called car-t therapy and this would take place in London. We had to head up there for what they called the harvest, they took some of Rys white blood cells and then sent them off to America, they were altered so when returned to Ry they could kill off the cancer cells. We headedback up to London where Ry had some intense chemotherapy over 4 days, he then had his car t transplant which went well until he developed CRS Cytokine release syndrome this is where the new cells were attacking the cancer cells almost to well and the toxins being released into Rys body was to much. Ry had to go back into intensive care, where he was put onto a kidney machine as his kidneys wasn’t working as they should. He was then put into an induced coma because his body needed a rest.
After a real tough 5 days Ry came around. He said he could hear mine and his dad’s voice and he felt like he was in a giant ballon trying to fight his way out. Rys lines kept bleeding, he cleared UCLH out of blood and also needed a feeding tube to get nutrients into him, he came through the other side though and eventually he was able to have his bone marrow test to see if the treatment had work.
Our lives were shattered again as the results came back that Rys cancer had flipped from Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia to Acute myeloid leukaemia. The next day 5th November we were transferred back to Bristol, a new plan was put into place and Darren Olly Lacey and Peri were able to come up to visit him. It was so lovely to be all back together for a couple of days. On the 8th November they all went home and me and seb were given the horrendous news that they couldn’t continue with Rys treatment. Me and seb stayed by Rys side, cuddles were the best, I held him right up until he gained his angle wings on Wednesday night the 10th of November 2021- life will never be the same, I live in hope that I will hold my baby boy again one day- my beautiful boy, my hero, my best friend xxx
