You Only Live Once, I Can Be Gone Tomorrow
FOR TOM…..
Im here with a very heavy heart to tell you about my husband Thomas William Stoll. Who could still gave me butterflies 🦋
I wanted you to know ALMOST everything about this man but I don’t have that much time. So here is a little bit so you can go home knowing who Tom was.
Tom and I briefly met in 8th grade, dated in 9th for a bit then again in 12th grade and married 2 years later in 1980. The following year Sarah was born, then Amanda, Christopher and Jaymeson.
He worked as a lead man in a warehouse for 38 years until they closed.
Due to his arthritis disability , it was difficult for him to continue working which lead him to early retirement.
As most of you know, Tom, my dad, Kim and others built our small ranch house in 1983. A few years later we out- grew our kitchen. I asked him if it was possible to add in a small area for the table out of the back of the house. He said only if I dig the footer thinking he was funny. The following day he went to work and I was out there digging all day. Ok, I tried but I’m just a girl so it may not have looked like much digging But When he came home from work he asked what the F was wrong with me!!!! Actually, in the end he was not surprised and told me if I wanted this it was not going to be a small area because that would be a waste of time . That man built me a 20 x 18 room all by himself with the help of the kids and I.
Tom loved playing with his wood …and tools. If Someone wanted a book shelf, table, cabinet, and even a few doll beds. All they had to Do. was ask. It may have taken months but it got done. He loved helping the kids with their homes too, that made him so happy when they asked him for help. In fact, he would help anyone who would ask
When Tom received his disability I talked him into buying his dream car, his 2005 Red Corvette. OMG, he had so much fun joining the Drifters car club and hanging out with his car buddies at car shows all summer long. He made so many wonderful friends. He always told me that they were so nice, respectful and fun. They made his last few years some of his best years ever.
When Kim and Marie purchased the farm 3 years ago Tom and I fell in love with it as soon as we seen it. We both had the same thought, let’s ask Kim and Marie if we could put a camper on the land and stay on the weekends. They jumped at the chance of having us there. So many times Tom would be driving the side by side through the woods with me and the dog, he would smack the steering wheel a few times and proclaim how much he loved his life , his family and he had everything he could ever want.
When Brian and Heather would come up on the weekends we all knew that the Fireball was going to come out as soon as Tom would take his fingers and make the symbol of a small amount. Heather made the comment one time that she never seen Tom like that. He was,so freaking HAPPY!
Tom loved his cruises, we always say that he goes for the food. He would go to breakfast and stay for lunch. Then before dinner we had to hit up the Windjammer dining room before the main dining room dinner.
We were suppose to go on one in 3 weeks. When I was sitting with him at the MAC Center, all I could think of was, I just want to get him home, cancel the cruise and just be with him and be thankful he was home!
We didn’t have a lot of money but we did have 4 wonderful kids and 5 awesome grandchildren.
Believe me, marriage is NOT easy but we made it work and thank god for that .
Tom left us 20-30 years too soon. None of us were ready for this. How could you think you had the flu, needed fluids and end up going to heaven within 3 days.
How does one comprehend this, it is impossible for any of us !
We knew he waited until Chris could fly back home from vacation. He was well medicated but we knew every time we told him that Christopher was coming soon his blood pressure went up from hardly any pressure at all. Yes….Christopher did arrived in time.
We then made the decision to turn everything off and let him go before he had cardiac arrest.
The kids helped me get up onto his bed so that I could lay next to him, hold him and feel his last heartbeat ! The kids held us both close and then our life changed forever.
We are all confused, broken, devastated, sad and every emotion you can imagine.
Please think of Tom, our kids and Me sometimes and say a prayer for us because right now we don’t know how to navigate this new life we were thrown into.
Some day if you’re in your car, driving down the road with your windows open, the sun is shining, not a care in the world, FleetWood Mack is playing on the radio, and a smile on your face…. Think of Tom as a 17 year old guy doing this and send him your love !
Thank you everyone. for all of your help, food, calls, texts and coming to be with us these past few days. It is so much appreciated and we love you guys !
