Travis Leroy Brooks
"I love me some you Macie Diane Brooks"
My dad was one of a kind. He was funny, loving, stubborn, goofy, and larger than life. He was the kind of person who could turn an ordinary moment into a memory you’d never forget. Whether he was grilling, cruising around in his Cadillac with the music turned up, swimming for hours, or making everyone laugh with one of his jokes, he always found a way to make life more fun.
He loved the things that made him happy — his music, his tattoos, his family, his grill, and being in the water. He was a proud fan of Insane Clown Posse, a self-proclaimed Grill Master, and the Jolly Green Giant. He never cared about looking silly if it meant making someone laugh, and his personality was something you couldn’t forget.
But to me, my dad was so much more than the things he loved. He was my safe place. He was the person I called when I needed help, when I needed advice, or when I just needed a way out. No matter what was happening, no matter the situation, he always came. I could count on him. He was my hero.
Our relationship wasn’t perfect, and I wasn’t always the perfect daughter. There were times I was stubborn. There were times I ignored him, got angry, or said things I wish I could take back. There were moments when I didn’t understand why he was hard on me or why he wouldn’t let me do everything I wanted. But as I got older, I realized it was never because he wanted to hold me back — it was because he wanted to protect me, guide me, and help me become the person I was meant to be.
Because of him, I am who I am today. He taught me independence. He taught me strength. He taught me how to stand on my own, make smart choices, and know the kind of person I want to be. Even the hard lessons came from a place of love.
My dad wanted to be the best father he could be, and I hope he knew that he was. He gave me something that I will carry forever — a father who showed up, a father who loved me, and a father who always came when I needed him.
The memories I hold closest are the simple ones — swimming together, riding in his Cadillac, listening to music, watching Adult Swim, sharing meals, laughing until our stomachs hurt, and knowing that no matter what happened, Dad would be there.
He wasn’t perfect. I wasn’t perfect. But we loved each other, and that’s what mattered.
My dad’s story is one of love, laughter, music, lessons, and unforgettable memories. Even though he is no longer here, the pieces of him live on through the people who love him and through the parts of him I carry with me every day.
He wasn’t just my dad. He was my hero, my protector, my biggest supporter, and one of the biggest reasons I became the person I am today.
I love you with all my heart, Daddy. Always.
