Ernest William Berroth
Thank you for your service
Ernest served in the armed forces. We honor that service here.
Ernest Berroth eulogy read by son Steven at Ernie's service:
For those that know Dad if he were here today in more than spirit you know that he would be twitching around like a cat in a room of rocking chairs. I was the only family member that missed on the dress code and I’m sure Dad would have loved the shorts and Hawaiian shirts.
We are here to honor the memory of Ernest Berroth a beloved father, grandfather friend and husband.
It was just under 2 years ago when we gathered to share in our memories of Ernest’s true love Marilyn and now with a broken heart but many fun and fond memories we find our family and friends gathered yet again at the passing of this pillar of a man.
Ernest Berroth, Ernie, Dad, Pipa was born in Norwalk Connecticut on December 2nd 1928 where he spent his childhood until graduating from high school in 1947.
At this point of Dad’s life he decided it was time to go defend the country so he joined the Marines and spent the next few years as Corporal Ernest William Berroth fighting off the enemy on the frozen lands of Alaska. Ok, there wasn’t much to defend but the fishing and hunting were superb and Dad didn’t need to run the air conditioner. Upon returning from the service Dad hunted down the lovely Marilyn Block and the two were married in 1954 ( 50+ years devoted husband to Marilyn).
In the next 30 years Dad built the family a house with his own two hands in Wilton Connecticut spending every evening and weekend wielding a hammer and saw. He fathered 3 children William, Karen and Steve and he grew countless tomatoes. Upon retiring from Connecticut Light and Power Dad had enough of the frozen tundra of Wilton Connecticut and the deer playing in his garden and decided it was time to move to Ramona California where he could garden year round and be close to his children and grand children.
Dad’s life has been a storybook tale, he met the love of his life, married her, had three terrific children (if I do say so myself) was able to retire and spend 20 + years relaxing in his garden and traveling to casinos with the love of his life. As with many stories this one has a sad ending, upon the loss of his wife of half a century Dad’s heart was broken and all the fertilizer in the world could not let it grow and mend.
Dad is now reunited with Marilyn and today as we all sit here sad they are enjoying each others love once again. I’m sure they are in the high rollers room working on comps.
Dad, we will miss your humor, your smile, your 5AM phone calls and 4PM bedtimes, we will miss your advice but most of all we will miss your friendship.
You will never be forgotten in our hearts
