My fondest memories

I was told a story growing up of the day my papa was told I was going to be a girl. In his mind I think he knew this was his last shot at a grandson. I remember dad telling me papa said “it could still be a boy damnit!” Lol what my papa didn’t realize at the time was how much I was going to enjoy the farm. Every time my dad would go to check the cows I would want to go too. I enjoyed those times with him and my papa so much. After school, if there was a calf in the barn, papa would help me make a bottle so we could feed it together. Afterwards I’d spend time in the pin just playing with it. One time going down the valley to check cows I was stung in the leg. Papa told me I was going to be alright and proceeded to stick his finger in his mouth to grab some tobacco to rub on my leg. At the time I thought he was crazy, but that old remedy did work to relieve the sting. He also taught me how to check the strength of an electric fence with a piece of grass. I truly enjoyed making those memories with him and will cherish them forever.

Making Memories with Papa

Some of my fondest memories of Papa were going squirrel hunting with him and dad and helping them make hay. While hunting, I think I surprised them both when I shot my limit of squirrel the first day out! Helping make hay began as a spectator, riding on the wagon as a child until it bacame too full. As I got older, that turned into helping load the wagon in the hayfield and unload it in the barn. To me, this was special for so many reasons, but mainly because I got to spend time with two of my favorite guys.
