You fought so hard, you wouldn’t go, you waited for your wings to grow, your curtain call, your final bow, obviously Jake needs you now…

The wonderful life of Carl Mammone, he grew up in Roberts Street East Brunswick to parents Teresa and Mario, the eldest brother of siblings Grace and John.

He started his schooling at St Josephs primary, then went onto Brunswick Tech and later Moreland High where he met his good mate Carlo, better known as Jinx.

Carlo tells us he was a bit of a rascal at school and part of the popular rat pack, smoking in the laneway and getting up to all sorts of no good.

They had their regular hang-outs at Chin Chins and the Kent Hotel in Carlton where the staff let them BYO, their friendship remained life long right up until the end.

He started his career in finance, he then worked his way up to teaching karate at Bob Jones then security and went onto floristry, which he also passed onto Keera.

He finished his working life at Serco where he made some lifelong friends namely John, Jerric, Joan and the list goes.

He always called them his Serco family and they meant the world to him.

Carl was also a bit of an entrepreneur and always had his hands in a few projects at the same time.

But it wasn’t just his work that kept him busy, he had other passions such as cooking - food was life, travel; his passport had plenty of stamps, indoor soccer and golf - where he was a very proud member of the Italian Golf Association in his younger years and re engaged with his passion for golf again later in life "Golf was Life".

This was also shared with his sons Jake and Rhys, giving them all plenty of bonding time on the course together.

His brother-in-law Darryl was quoted as saying - if there’s a golf course up there, let's hope someone can teach you how to count!

In terms of love life, he didn’t make the best choices when it came to women but he did marry Julie who was definitely the exception to his not-so-great choices! In their 25-year relationship, they created three incredible children in Keera, Rhys and Jake.

He was an amazing dad when he was around wished it was a bit more often.

Where he lacked in fathering at times though, he made up for in grandfathering and proved himself to be a great Nonno, even buying the kids presents before they were born and continuing on throughout their lives keepsakes they will now cherish forever.

This was the stage in his life that he really softened and revealed all the sides to Carl, previously kept close to his chest.

He taught the kids soccer, supported their AFL games, was always interested in what they were doing and even got into sharing snapchat pics back and forwards and constantly reminded his granddaughters the rules for boyfriends that was if you get one I will break his legs!.

He always gave great birthday and Christmas cards with deep thought to the messages, these we will hold close to hearts of gentle reminder of the love Dad had for us all.

Rhys and Amanda loved their dinner dates with Carl where he would cook his famous creations and has since made a recipe book for the family to treasure to pass down to the generations to come.

From his most recent relationship, Carl made a deep friendship with John who ended up being the one with him the day he left this life.

He was a strong and a fighter to the very end and my last words to Dad before I left him for the last time was that I loved him and I would let go of his hand so he could go give it to Jake. It was time for him to go take care of Jake and I will look after Rhys and his grandaughters.

It was an honor to be your daughter as Rhys and Jake your son's, we will continue to carry you in our life in all that we do. We miss you immensly and love you endlessly, tho we find comfort knowng you are now taking care of Jake for us until we are all together again someday. With Jake, they’ll likely be doing burn-outs, playing golf, catching up on lost time and generally driving each other mad.

Until then we love you, we will continue to speak your name, stick together and keep your famous recipes alive for generations to come.

We love you Dad
